MT4 and MT5 on Exness: what differs

MT4 and MT5 are two versions of the MetaTrader platform, and Exness offers trading accounts for both. This page compares what the Exness help center lists for each, and describes the other tools Exness provides.

Details come from the Exness help center (checked 2026-10-13) and can change. This page does not compare prices, execution or trading costs between the two platforms. On either one, leveraged trading carries a high risk of loss.

Is MT5 simply a newer MT4?

BlueSnyaiper

MT5 has an improved interface and extended features. Both platforms support the same instrument categories, but their EAs use different languages: an EA written for one cannot run on the other.

Account types and platforms

  • Exness trading accounts are either MT4-type or MT5-type. Every account type offers an MT4-type account.
  • You choose MT4 or MT5 when you create an account. The real and demo accounts created automatically at registration are Standard MT5 accounts.
  • Standard Cent works with both MT4 and MT5. The exceptions are BTCUSDc and ETHUSDc, which are available on MT5 only. Standard Cent also does not offer every instrument.
  • MT4 and MT5 both support forex, cryptocurrencies, commodities and indices.

Does MT4 have fewer order types than MT5?

BlueSnyaiper

In Exness's desktop lists, MT5 adds Buy stop limit and Sell stop limit. The other order types are on both. Timeframes, built-in indicators and drawing tools are also listed in larger numbers for MT5.

One-click trading is available on both. The MT4 list in the Exness article does not include an economic calendar. A longer list of features does not make a platform better for your own needs. Source: Available trading platforms (checked 2026-10-13).

Can I move my MT4 EA to an MT5 account?

BlueSnyaiper

No. MT4 EAs are built in MQL4 and MT5 EAs in MQL5, and an EA made for one platform cannot be used on the other. EAs run only in the desktop versions of MT4 and MT5.

  • An EA made for MT4 cannot be used on MT5, and an EA made for MT5 cannot be used on MT4.
  • EAs run in the MT4 and MT5 desktop terminals only. The mobile versions and the browser version (MT WebTerminal) do not run them.
  • The Exness Trade app and the mobile versions of MT5 and MT4 have no automated trading.

How to install an EA, and the Exness VPS, are on the EA and VPS page. Sources: Using Expert Advisors (EA) and Available trading platforms (checked 2026-10-13).

Browser, app and other Exness tools

  • MT WebTerminal. Works with MT4 and MT5 accounts, needs no installation and runs in a browser. It has no automated trading and no multi-chart view.
  • Exness Terminal (browser) and Exness Trade app. They support Exness-type and MT5-type accounts. In some regions, MT5-type accounts can only be used in MT5 terminals (desktop and mobile), not in the Exness tools.
  • Mobile MT4 and MT5. The MT5 mobile version works with MT5 accounts and the MT4 mobile version with MT4 accounts. MT5 mobile is for trading only and cannot manage the account.
  • MultiTerminal. A Windows tool for MT4-type accounts only, with no automated trading. It can keep up to 128 real accounts and 10 demo accounts active at once. Exness does not recommend it to most traders because it lacks some MT4 features.
  • Desktop MT4 and MT5. One trading account and one demo account can be active at the same time.

Points to check before you pick one

  • Do you plan to use an EA? The EA's language decides the platform: MQL4 for MT4, MQL5 for MT5.
  • Do you need a specific feature? Stop limit orders and the built-in economic calendar appear in the MT5 lists but not in the MT4 lists.
  • Do you want to trade BTCUSDc or ETHUSDc on Standard Cent? Those are available on MT5 only.
  • Where do you trade? Automated trading needs the desktop version, and the web and mobile tools do not run EAs.

Neither platform removes the risk of loss. Exness updates its platform requirements over time, so keep your terminal up to date and check the help center for the current rules.

Can I use an MT4 EA on an MT5 account?

No. MT4 EAs are written in MQL4 and MT5 EAs in MQL5. An EA made for one platform cannot be used on the other.

Does MT WebTerminal support automated trading?

No. MT WebTerminal works with MT4 and MT5 accounts and needs no installation, but it has no automated trading and no multi-chart view.

Does MT4 have an economic calendar?

Exness's list of built-in analysis tools for MT4 contains trading signals and market news, and no economic calendar. The MT5 list adds an economic calendar.

How many accounts can be active in the desktop tools?

In the MT4 and MT5 desktop versions, Exness says only one trading account and one demo account can be active at the same time. MultiTerminal, which supports MT4-type accounts only, can keep more accounts active.
