Margin calculator
Enter your trade size in lots, the contract size, the leverage as the number N in 1:N, and the exchange rate to your account currency. The tool estimates the required margin in the base currency and in your account currency.
It is a calculator, not advice. It does not tell you whether to trade, and it does not limit your loss. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.

How does the tool estimate margin?

It uses Exness's formula for variable margin: lots x contract size / leverage. For example, 2 lots of EURUSD at 1:2000 is 2 x 100,000 / 2000 = 100 EUR. The tool gives an estimate only.
How the calculation works
- Required margin in the base currency = lots x contract size / leverage.
- Required margin in your account currency = lots x contract size x rate / leverage.
Exness's example: 2 lots of EURUSD at 1:2000 is 2 x 100,000 / 2000 = 100 EUR.
The base-currency calculation follows Exness's Help Centre formula for variable margin. This tool then converts that estimate using the exchange rate you enter; the cited article does not specify Exness's conversion rate.
The tool keeps the division exact until the end. Each result is rounded up to two decimal places from its exact calculated value. This prevents rounding from understating the estimate; the margin required by your platform can still differ. Each value is rounded from the exact figure on its own. For example, lots 1, contract size 1, leverage 3 and rate 3 give 0.34 in the base currency and 1.00 in the account currency, not 1.02. This example only shows how the rounding works.

What to enter in each field
- Trade size. The number of lots.
- Contract size. For a standard forex lot at Exness, enter 100000 without a comma. Standard Cent uses cent lots, so this default does not apply. Gold is 100 troy ounces, a cryptocurrency is 1 coin, and an index is 1 contract. Use this tool only for instruments with variable margin.
- Leverage. Only the N of 1:N. At Exness the lowest setting is 1:2.
- Exchange rate. The amount of your account currency that 1 unit of the base currency buys. Leave it at 1 only if the base currency is your account currency.

What the result leaves out
- Fixed margin. Some instruments have a margin set per instrument that does not depend on leverage. Exness uses lots x contract size x margin rate for them, which this tool does not calculate.
- Changing leverage. The leverage that applies can change when your equity changes, during major news and around weekend and holiday closes.
- Hedged orders. Exness states that fully hedged orders require 0% margin and that partially hedged orders require margin on the unhedged portion. This calculator does not model hedged positions.
- Unlimited leverage. It cannot be calculated here.
Reading the result with the margin level
At Exness the margin level is (equity / required margin) x 100. A larger required margin lowers the margin level for the same equity. When the level falls to the margin call level you get a warning, and at the stop-out level orders are closed automatically. See margin call and stop-out.

Why is the result rounded up?
So that rounding does not understate the estimate. The tool rounds up from the third decimal place of the exact calculated value; the margin required by your platform can still differ. Can I enter 1:Unlimited?
No. Unlimited leverage cannot be calculated here. Enter a number of 1 or more.Is the result the margin my broker will require?
Not necessarily. The real margin depends on the broker, the instrument, your account balance and the time of day. The base-currency calculation follows the Exness Help Centre formula for variable margin, and the values on your platform can differ.Last reviewed 2026-10-13
