How an Exness demo account works
A demo account lets you use a trading platform with virtual funds instead of real money. This page explains what you get when you register, how to open another demo account, how to change its balance and when a demo account is deleted.

Does a demo account use real money?
No. A demo account trades with virtual funds, and a real account trades with real funds. Losses on a real account are real losses.
What is created when you register
A demo account trades with virtual funds, so no real money is used. A real account uses real funds.
- When you register, Exness automatically creates a real Standard MT5 account and a demo Standard MT5 account in your Personal Area.
- Demo accounts are available for every account type except Standard Cent.

Opening another demo account
Can I open a demo account of a different account type?
Yes, for every type except Standard Cent. You pick the type and choose Demo. The type and server are fixed when the account is created, so a different type needs a new account.
- In the Personal Area, open My Accounts and select Open Account.
- Choose the account type and select Continue.
- Choose Demo instead of Real.
- Enter the currency, an account nickname, the maximum leverage and the platform type (MT4 or MT5). Choosing the execution type is offered for Pro only, and setting a trading password applies to MT4 and MT5 only.
- Select Create an Account. The new account appears in the Demo tab of My Accounts.

Setting the demo balance
- In the Personal Area, open My Accounts and go to the Demo tab.
- Select Set Balance for the demo account you want to change.
- Enter the balance you want and confirm.

When a demo account is deleted
Why did my demo account disappear?
Exness deletes MT4 and MT5 demo accounts that show no activity, meaning trading or balance operations. A deleted demo account cannot be reactivated. It can also happen sooner than the stated period for technical reasons.
- A real account cannot be deleted. It can only be archived, and an archived real account can be reactivated.
- A demo account is deleted instead of archived, and after deletion it cannot be reactivated.
- Here, activity means trading operations or balance operations. To keep a demo account active, log in and carry out these operations.
- For technical reasons, an account can be archived or deleted earlier than the period Exness states.

- MT WebTerminal supports real and demo accounts of both MT4 and MT5. Exness Terminal and the Exness Trade app support Exness-type and MT5-type real and demo accounts. In some regions, MT5-type accounts can only be used in the MT5 desktop and mobile terminals.
- In each of these, only one trading account and one demo account can be active at a time.
